What Really Is Restylane Lyft?

The Restylane family of products by Galderma is a range of products that lift, plump, and rejuvenate aging skin. Restylane Lyft, previously known as Perlane, is the first FDA-approved hyaluronic acid (HA) filler designed to restore volume to the face and hands. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally-occurring substance in the body responsible for retaining moisture and keeping tissues well-hydrated. This body-compatibility makes HA one of the most effective injectable dermal fillers. What’s more, with 0.3% lidocaine included, it causes minimal discomfort.

If your hands appear bonier or more wizened than they once were, a Restylane Lyft treatment could be an effective solution. Similarly, if you’ve begun to notice your facial skin quality declining, or if you know something looks different when you look in the mirror but you can’t quite place what it is, the cause may be age-related volume loss. Although surgical solutions such as facelifts offer more permanent solutions, these procedures can be costly and involve lengthy recovery periods. Dermal fillers are a cost-effective way to reduce signs of aging and enhance your facial appearance with virtually no downtime!

Before and After Photos

Tissue Rejuvenation with Restylane Lyft

Facial volume loss can be subtle at first, but as time progresses, it actually causes structural changes in our complexion. As we age, our tissues atrophy (degenerate and/or shrink). In the face, the tissues like fat pads, muscle, and fascia slowly break down, which results in an altered facial shape.(1) Fat pads that sit between skin and musculature diminish and wrinkles and lines become more prominent as skin loses its elastic properties. The natural balance of tissue volume changes, resulting in a loss of volume in the following regions:
  • Periorbital Region (Around the Eyes)
  • Forehead
  • Cheeks
  • Temporal Region
  • Mandible (Lower Jaw)
  • Chin
  • Glabella (Between the Eyebrows)
  • Perioral Region (around the mouth)

Aging also leads to a persistence of fat in other areas of the face, particularly under the chin, in the lateral nasolabial fold and in the jowls.(2)

How Does Restylane Lyft Address Facial Volume Loss?

The active ingredient in Restylane Lyft is hyaluronic acid, a moisture-retaining component naturally present in skin. HA is the main component of the extracellular matrix, an interconnected structure of molecules that support the skin and keep it strong and supple.  Compared to other Restylane products, this formula’s consistency is more viscous. Because it has a thicker consistency, it can be injected deeper to treat structural issues like volume loss and deep lines.(3) Targeted injections in areas of concern restore lost plumpness and smooth wrinkles in a tailored treatment that can be customized to fit your exact needs! Restylane Lyft is also popular amongst young people in their twenties and thirties, who want to enhance their cheekbones for a subtle yet sleek look.

A Restylane survey demonstrated that Restylane Lyft improves the appearance of the midface, with 95% of participants recording an improvement after only two months.(3)

What Does Hand Aging Look Like?

Signs of aging aren’t restricted to the face alone. Hand aging is characterized by wrinkles, hollowing of the dorsal web spaces, and the raised appearance of veins and tendons.(4) We may find our skin appears thinner and more fragile, revealing the ripples of blood vessels and our knuckles may appear more prominent. This can be attributed to increased skin laxity and a decline in tissue volume surrounding the bones of the hand. The dense formulation of Restylane Lyft plumps the backs of the hands making veins and tendons less visible. This provides subtle, smooth, natural-looking hand rejuvenation results.

Candidates for Restylane Lyft

Restylane Lyft is suitable for the correction of moderate to severe facial folds and wrinkles, and increasing facial volume in areas of loss. Men and women with facial volume loss who do not want to undergo a more invasive surgical procedure may seek treatment with this minimally-invasive HA filler. Restylane Lyft is prepared with the local anesthetic lidocaine, so the treatment may not be suitable for patients who:

  • Have a severe allergy and/or anaphylaxis reaction to lidocaine
  • Have allergies to gram positive bacterial proteins
  • Experience Bleeding and blood clotting disorders
  • Have Local anesthetic (amide) sensitivity

Restylane Lyft cannot be used on any area of active inflammation. Please ensure conditions such as cysts, rashes, pimples and hives are well-controlled before your procedure takes place. Patients who have Herpes Simplex should speak with their nurse about taking antiviral medication prior to and after injection.

Personal Consultation

Our nurse injectors are here to help you with your Restylane treatment every step of the way! This begins with a personal consultation to find out about what brought you to us. You can explain the areas of your face and hands you’re dissatisfied with. After you’ve given us some basic health details, we’ll explain the benefits of Restylane Lyft and what you can expect from your treatment. Please let us know if you have received any previous injectable treatments and how long ago you had them. Similarly, please also inform us if you have ever received cosmetic or medical vein sclerotherapy on your hands, as this may affect your results.

Restylane Lyft Preparation &n Procedure

Before your Restylane Lyft appointment, we ask that you do the following:

  • Avoid taking over-the-counter blood thinning medications (Motrin, aspirin, etc.) two weeks before your treatment.
  • Avoid taking certain vitamin supplements (e.g. St. John’s Wort, Vitamin E, Fish Oil).
  • Don’t wax, bleach or apply hair removal cream to the area a few days beforehand.
  • Avoid topical retinoids (Tretinoin/Retin A etc.) and other retinol-based creams.
  • Cease use of alcohol 24 hours before your treatment.

The Restylane Lyft procedure is incredibly straightforward. After arriving at our office with a clean face, we will take you to one of our private treatment rooms. Your nurse injector will use an ultrafine needle to administer your predetermined Restylane Lyft treatment. They will place each injection carefully in the areas of concern, then massage the face for even distribution of the gel. Usually, the entire procedure takes between 15-20 minutes. However, if you are treating several areas in one session, your treatment time may exceed this.

Restylane Lyft Recovery & Results

The face and the backs of the hands can experience swelling, redness, and itchiness following injection. Please refrain from scratching at the injection site and use over-the-counter pain relievers and ice packs to mitigate discomfort. Discomfort should only last a few hours after your procedure, and swelling symptoms will subside in one to two weeks.

Immediately after your procedure, you’ll notice even plumping of the areas you have treatment with Restylane Lyft. And, once the filler has settled, you’ll see lasting results in around four weeks. Men and women can benefit from the youthful wrinkle-smoothing and volumizing effects of Restylane Lyft for up to a year for facial treatments and six months for hand treatments!
