Chin & Jawline Filler

About Hyaluronic Acid Fillers

All Restylane and Juvéderm fillers contain hyaluronic acid (HA). This is a type of naturally occurring lubricating substance produced within the body. It works to hydrate the joints, allowing for smoother movement between cartilage, but it’s also a type of moisturizer within the skin. The HA itself binds to connective proteins like collagen, providing stronger support for the extracellular matrix of the skin. (1) This matrix is made up of various molecules, proteins, and minerals that surround the skin cells themselves, creating an environment that promotes wound healing and rejuvenation. After a treatment session of Restylane or Juvéderm, your skin can draw in more water which helps maintain a more youthful glow.

Redefine Your Lower Face

Restylane Defyne for the Chin

Restylane Defyne

While HA fillers are usually designed to fill in wrinkles and lines, the Restylane Defyne formulation has been FDA-approved to treat mild to moderate chin retrusion. Chin retrusion, or a “weak chin”, can disrupt the proportions of the face, leading to an unbalanced profile and diminished self-confidence. Restylane Defyne is specifically designed to provide natural-looking results while maintaining flexibility and movement in the treated area. Its unique formulation allows it to adapt to your facial expressions, ensuring that your results appear seamless and effortless. Research has shown that Defyne is able to maintain aesthetic improvement of the chin for up to 1 year. (2)

Juvéderm Volux for the Jawline

Juvederm Volux XC

Juvéderm Volux is a hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler specifically designed for jawline enhancement. This advanced injectable treatment allows us to contour and redefine your jawline, creating a more youthful and harmonious facial appearance. By carefully placing the filler along the jawline, we can restore lost volume, improve jawline definition, and achieve natural-looking results. Juvéderm Volux has demonstrated incredible contour improvements for up to 18 months. (3)

Botox v.s. Dermal Fillers

Although both Botox and hyaluronic acid fillers can reverse some signs of aging, Botox does not have the ability to volumize and cannot be used to create definition of thedefinitionin the chin and jawline area. Botox works as a neuromodulator since it relaxes the muscles underlying the skin, effectively relaxing and eliminating the wrinkles within the area. It also can be used as a wrinkle-prevention tool

With this treatment, the goal is to eliminate dynamic wrinkles that occur with expressions in the upper face; as a result, they don’t progress to become static wrinkles that are consistently present. HA fillers, on the other hand, rejuvenate the skin, provoke its own healing processes, and directly affect the structural integrity of the dermis.

Benefits of HA Fillers

HA-based chin and jawline fillers provide patients with a comprehensive range of benefits:

  • They add subtle projection and volume to the lower half of the face.
  • Results can last a year or more.
  • Minimal downtime is required.
  • HA is non-synthetic, biocompatible, and biodegradable.
  • Treatment is long-lasting and cost-effective.
  • HA fillers are reversible
  • HA provokes more collagen and elastin protein production.

Providers at Beleza are able to select tried and true, FDA-approved products like Juvéderm Volux for jawline sculpting and Restylane Defyne for chin definition to improve the overall balance and appearance of a recessed chin or to accentuate a weak jawline. Both of these HA filler products are appropriate for male and female patients. Improved chin and jawline projection are complemented by the added benefit of improved hydration.

Besides the effect of the added hydration, HA also works to boost your skin’s own production of connective proteins, primarily collagen and elastin. These contribute to your skin’s overall rigidity and elasticity, additional benefits besides an increase in volume. It is able to accomplish this by stimulating the fibroblast cells, one of the most important types of cells located in the second layer of skin, the dermis.

Candidates for Chin & Jawline Fillers

Candidates for chin and jawline fillers should be at least 18 years old with no allergies to lidocaine and healthy skin overall. Those with severe allergies or with a history of anaphylaxis may not be considered for this type of skin rejuvenation. Luckily, Juvéderm and Restylane are extremely safe for most prospective patients looking to augment the lower half of their face. Active skin eruptions, such as rash, cysts, hives, or infection may require that treatment be postponed until the condition is managed.

Personal Consultation

A thorough personal consultation is the foundation of any successful cosmetic procedure. It’s critical that a clinician takes the time to understand your unique concerns and goals regarding your facial features. During this comprehensive consultation, one of our team will thoroughly assess your medical history, discuss your specific concerns, and carefully examine the current appearance of your chin and jawline. They will then discuss the required doses of Defyne and/or Volux and what it can accomplish for you. Contact our office at (412) 877-9388 (Pittsburgh, PA) or (724) 759-7777 (Sewickley, PA) or schedule your consultation online today.

Preparation

To help prevent bruising, avoiding blood thinning medications for at least 1 week and avoiding alcohol 24 hours before is an essential step. You should also stop using topical retinoid creams, refrain from shaving or tweezing the treatment area, and stay away from the sun in the days leading up to your appointment. You may need an antiviral prescription if you’ve ever had a cold sore outbreak on your face. At Beleza, we strongly encourage patients to eat pineapple and take bromelain supplements before and after filler procedures, as this helps to reduce discomfort and swelling.

Applying an ice pack to your chin and/or jawline for a few minutes before your procedure can help reduce inflammation and the risk of bruising.

Procedure

We recommend arriving at your Beleza appointment with a clean face, free of makeup or perfumes. Before fillers are administered, your aesthetic provider will first cleanse your face with alcohol. Then, they will distribute the Restylane or Juvéderm deep in several targeted areas within the chin or jawline. They may gently massage your skin so that the hyaluronic acid spreads evenly. The entire procedure may take as little as 15 minutes. You will then receive further instructions on how to decrease swelling and any redness that may cause some temporary discomfort.

Recovery and Results

After receiving your chin and/or jawline fillers, you’ll be allowed to apply an ice pack for a few minutes at a time. To get the best results possible and prevent infection, you should keep a clean face, free of makeup, for the rest of the day. Although you will be able to go about your daily life, try to keep away from extreme heat, refrain from working out, and avoid alcohol for the first 24 hours.

Many patients are surprised to experience how easy recovery is and are impressed with how soon they see results. You’ll notice results immediately, but some of the excess swelling may take up to 2 weeks to subside.

FAQ

Do dermal fillers hurt?

The ingredients within dermal fillers such as Juvéderm and Restylane are mixed with lidocaine to allow for a more comfortable experience. Most patients describe mild stinging sensations during the injections, but nothing significant enough that warrants over-the-counter medication after the procedure. Beleza providers may also apply a topical anesthetic to numb injection sites prior to treatment. Some patients may use ProNox, a 50/50 nitrous/oxygen blend to alleviate pain and anxiety during chin and jawline filler treatments.

Can I get permanent chin filler?

Unfortunately, Beleza does not offer permanent chin filler options, however we have another excellent, long-lasting and impactful alternative: surgical chin augmentation with a chin implant. Dr. Wooten often performs chin implant placement procedures for men and women who seek to balance their profile with improved projection.

Do chin and jawline fillers correct skin sagging?

Chin and jawline fillers can minimize the appearance of mild sagging by accentuating adjacent areas of the face, but they won’t be able to reduce moderate or severe sagging. In most cases of sagging, or ptosis, in the lower half of the face, a facelift can be the most effective anti-aging solution.

Can the results of hyaluronic acid fillers be reversed?

Although HA fillers for the chin and jawline can last more than a year, this also means that these are more of a commitment for the patient. Luckily hyaluronic acid-based fillers can be dissolved with a substance called Hyaluronidase if a patient decides they don’t like filler. Hyaluronidase is an enzyme that breaks down the HA much faster than your body normally would.

Do chin and jawline fillers look natural?

HA fillers look incredibly natural as long as the injector is trained and knowledgeable on facial anatomy and how to inject strategically. These fillers are not meant to create brand-new facial features, but they are able to highlight the natural contours that are already present, resulting in a natural, refreshed – but still “you” – appearance.
