The Scoop on Skin Cancer

Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in the United States, but also one of the most treatable. People think that they needn’t pay attention to this, because they don’t frequent the beach or lay in the sun to get a tan. But, beware!!! Skin cancer does not only affect beachgoers, but golfers, baseball players or spectators, runners, gardeners or basically anyone who spends time engaging in outside activities. In fact, one in five Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime. So, now that you have the correct information on skin cancers, these are the things you must watch for on your own skin, or that of a loved one: Any type of asymmetry, border irregularity, color variation and the diameter of the skin lesion. Don’t forget to check areas of the body that are more hidden, such as the hair on your scalp, between the buttocks and the labia area as well. If you see anything that looks suspicious, or that you have questions about, please call for an appointment today. Pittsburgh Plastic Surgeon – Dr. Anna Wooten does body checks and this is typically an insurance covered visit.
