Many of the phone calls we get in our Pittsburgh area office are inquiries to schedule appointments, but, first, patients often ask “What will my consult be like?”
Here, we will lay out some of the essentials, and give you tips on how to prepare for it.
Dr. Wooten will evaluate you.
Before proceeding any further, Dr. Wooten will first perform an exam to make sure you are a good candidate for surgery. Many things will factor into this evaluation. She and our nurses go over your medical history very thoroughly before you even come in to the Beleza office, so any contraindications for surgery will be discussed at this time. She will examine the part of your body that you are concerned about and give you an honest opinion on whether or not surgery will be the correct solution for you. This process is different for every procedure. For example, if you are coming in for a breast augmentation with implants, Dr. Wooten will assist you in trying on a variety of implants styles and shapes to find the one that best suits your physique.
Dr. Wooten will explain the procedure to you, and she or our nurses will explain the healing process to you.
Much like any other major procedure, cosmetic surgery carries with it certain risks, and a recovery period during which you will not be able to work. These risks and the recovery time vary from procedure to procedure, of course. This is why either Dr. Wooten or our nurses will explain to you what your surgery entails, and what to expect during your recovery. This helps to smooth your healing process, by letting you prepare well. Women recovering from a Mommy Makeover, for example, will have to refrain from lifting their children in the weeks following their surgery.
Have your concerns and questions addressed at your consultation.
Come prepared to your consultation. This means knowing what specifically concerns you about your body, what you want your result to be, and having your questions ready. Dr. Wooten will help you to understand what to expect before, during, and after surgery, but it helps to know what your personal goals and expectations are. It important to have realistic expectations when looking forward to any type of plastic surgery.
