Signs You Are Ready for Mommy Makeover

The “Mommy Makeover” concept was developed to help new mothers reclaim their pre-baby bodies and the self-confidence they enjoyed before pregnancy and childbirth. Although the treatment is a wonderful option for many mothers in the Pittsburgh area, it is not for everyone. Some women simply do not make good candidates for mommy makeover, and others are advised to postpone treatment because the timing is less than ideal for one reason or another.

In this post, Dr. Anna Wooten reveals some of the signs that you may be a good candidate for mommy makeover and that the timing is right.

You Are Finished Having Children

The best time for mommy makeover is when you are finished having children. Although having a baby after mommy makeover is physically possible and safe, it may change your body in ways that require additional revisionary surgery down the line (e.g., re-stretch the abdominal and breast skin or separate the abdominal muscles).

You Have Recovered from Childbirth and Weaned Your Baby

Your body needs time to recover from childbirth and breastfeeding, and to stabilize. Although you may not be back to your pre-baby weight, you should be somewhat close to it, or at a weight you can maintain after surgery. If you are too far outside the range of your target weight when you have surgery, you may not see the aesthetic results you desire.

You Can Clearly Communicate Your Goals

At the time of your mommy makeover consultation, you should be able to clearly communicate your goals and expectations of mommy makeover to Dr. Wooten. For example, you should be able to describe what you would like your breasts to look like, or explain that you would like to have defined ab muscles like you did before pregnancy. Be prepared to answer questions about what you miss about your pre-baby body.

You Have Time to Dedicate to Surgery and Recovery

Mommy makeover requires a few weeks of recovery downtime, during which you will not be able to bend over, lift your kids, cook, clean, or perform other household tasks. Ideally, you should postpone your mommy makeover until you have secured help with childcare and chores and can focus only on your health and well-being for at least one to two weeks (if not more).
