About Restylane® Contour for the Temples

Like the other Restylane formulations, Restylane Contour’s main ingredient is hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring molecule in the body that helps maintain the skin’s moisture, volume, and elasticity. With natural aging (and weight loss), the skin begins to lose elasticity and volume, causing the skin to droop, fat pads to descend, and hollowness to develop—especially in areas like the temples.

Restylane Contour adds volume to sunken-looking temples, allowing patients to look more youthful without more invasive surgery. The formula can also augment the cheeks and enhance midface contours. (1)

Restylane Contour features Restylane’s proprietary XpresHAn Technology™, which creates a flexible, soft gel that moves naturally and seamlessly with your facial expressions. By allowing the filler to bend, stretch, and flex with your facial muscle movements, this technology avoids a stiff or artificial appearance.

Candidates

If you have noticed a loss of facial volume in your temples and want to add youthful plumping in this area, you may be an ideal candidate for Restylane Contour. Prospective patients must be at least 21 years old to receive this treatment. Patients should also be in generally good health and have realistic expectations for their results. Individuals who are pregnant or breastfeeding, have active skin infections, have sensitivities to hyaluronic acid, or take blood-thinning medications may have to delay treatment or find an alternative. Also, you should not receive this treatment if you are allergic to hyaluronic acid, lidocaine, or other ingredients in the Restylane formula. You should also let Dr. Wooten or your injection specialist know if you are planning to undergo other cosmetic treatments.

We encourage you to schedule a consultation to explore your options and determine if you are a good candidate for Restylane Contour.

Personal Consultation

During your personal consultation, Dr. Woothen or one of our registered nurse injectors will take a look at your medical history, examine your facial anatomy, and discuss your overall goals. They will gather all of the necessary information and create a personalized treatment plan to address your concerns. This meeting is also a great opportunity to ask questions or address any concerns you may have before your treatment.

To schedule your personal consultation and explore Restylane Contour, contact us online or call our Sewickley/Wexford or Pittsburgh offices at (724) 759-7777 or (412) 877-9388, respectively.

Procedure

The Restylane Contour process will look like a straightforward injection procedure. First, your injector will cleanse your skin, then mark injection points in your temples and any other areas you would like to address. Restylane Contour contains lidocaine in its formula to ensure patient comfort.

After preparing the treatment area, your nurse injector will carefully inject Restylane Contour at a precise depth. They will repeat this injection process to address all areas of concern. Finally, they will gently clean your injection sites with an antiseptic wipe. If necessary, they may also apply a cold compress or ice pack. (2)

Recovery

Restylane Contour injections require little to no downtime. You may feel some tenderness or see some redness initially, but these effects often resolve very quickly. Your injector may recommend that you avoid strenuous activities, pressing on the area, undergoing abrasive cosmetic treatments, and making other slight adjustments in your routine, but typically just for the first 24–48 hours. You should also try to stay out of the sun and avoid intense heat/saunas.

Most patients can return to work and normal daily activities immediately after treatment while enjoying gradual improvements as any minor swelling subsides and the filler settles naturally into the facial tissues over the following days.

Results

Restylane Contour creates results that can typically be visible immediately, showing increased volume in the temples and other areas where the formula was injected. These improvements may continue to refine over one to two weeks. Restylane Contour is long-lasting, with many patients continuing to see improvements for as long as 18 months. You can prolong these results with regular maintenance injections.

Corresponding Procedures

Neuromodulators

Neuromodulators like Dysport, Botox, and Daxxify are injectable treatments that temporarily relax the facial muscles to soften dynamic wrinkles and prevent further creases from forming. Pairing these injections with Restylane Contour simultaneously restores volume and diminishes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Other Restylane Formulations

As one of the leading names in hyaluronic acid fillers, Restylane’s offerings do not stop at Contour. We offer several other innovative Restylane formulations to address specific concerns, including:

  • Restylane: The original formulation that started it all, Restylane can restore volume in several facial features to create smooth, full, and supple-looking skin and reduce signs of aging.
  • Restylane Defyne: Restylane Defyne targets the lines around the mouth, smoothing moderate-to-severe laugh lines. It can also augment the chin region to improve its definition.
  • Restylane Lyft: Restylane Lyft can diminish the appearance of facial wrinkles, perk up and lift your profile, and add fullness where volume loss is present in the face and in aging hands.
  • Restylane Kysse: Restylane Kysse enhances the lip volume and smooths away smile lines when collagen decline causes a decrease in lip fullness.
  • Restylane Silk: Restylane Silk subtly augments the lips and smooths vertical lines (smoker’s lines) around the mouth to deliver a natural-looking and detailed lip definition.
  • Restylane Refyne: Restylane Refyne volumizes the skin to smooth laugh lines and marionette lines, soften signs of aging, and preserve natural expression.
